I love Cameron Park Zoo. They are smaller than big city zoos, but in a few hours you can see all the exhibits which is about all the time I want to spend walking around. The paths are nice and wide, I have seen people in wheelchairs many times at the zoo FYI. My favorite exhibit is the large one near the playground that has a variety of South American animals in it (I especially like the squirrel monkeys and sloth).
we live in georgetown texas, and frequently drive the hour and a half up to waco to go to their great zoo. It is small enough for my 3 year old, and has enough animal diversity and educational facts for my 9 year old. the animals seem well cared for, and staff is friendly. they even have somewhat healthy snacks and lunches. great family adventure
While we were visiting family in Texas, we made a trip up to Waco from the suburbs of Austin to visit this zoo and were all thankful we did! It is a wonderful zoo! Laid out well, we didn't feel like we had missed anything at all. Unlike some reptile houses, the one here was designed with kids in mind. The little activities throughout the zoo for the kids to try out really made it a special place, fun for everyone!
We love going to the Cameron Park Zoo when we're visiting family in Waco. They are on the smaller side, but still have plenty of animals and exhibits to make the kids happy. Our favorite is the newer otter exhibit. The kids have a blast watching the otters swim and play!
This is a surprisingly wonderful zoo for Waco. The exhibits are well maintained and the kids area (tree slide, spray area) is always a favorite. The tubular otter slide (slide that goes through the otters' habitat) is also fun. Will need at least two hours to get through it all to allow the kids enough time to play. Can't bring outside food in unless you eat at the picnic tables outside of the grounds...I have however been able to bring snacks and drinks w/o them checking or telling me I can't.
The Cameron Park Zoo is the fifty-one-acre home near the Brazos River for antelopes, bison, giraffes, monkeys, rhinos, tigers, wolves, zebras, and other animals. The grounds are covered in native trees—cottonwoods, mesquites, pecans, and oaks—and feature a waterfall.
The surrounding park on University Parks Drive at Herring
has 328 acres of woods, nature walks, equestrian trails, scenic picnic areas, and a children’s playground. Horseback riding is available for an additional fee.
