A little off the beaten path, and a little extra effort to get to from the Denver Metro Area, but well worth the trip! Kids of all ages walked around agape, wonderment on their faces, either wowed by the tarantula they got to touch, dripping from the ocean touch tank, or bewildered by the flourescent blues, reds, oranges of the butterfly room. It was a little like what I imagine walking into Willy Wonka's factory felt like- ok, minus the chocolate waterfall. But every twist and turn in the room brought new surprises- corners filled with Monarchs, camouflaged butterflies that all of a sudden flittered by my kids' ears, bringing squeals of delight. Three years later, they still remember and talk about the trip. What a lovely (and educational!) place!
I loved this place. My sons were not quite sure about the butterflys! The bugs inside were totally loved by them. My 2 year old did not want to leave the bugs. It was very kids friendly with stools to get up on to look at the bugs in the upper bins. Then you can walk outside where there are just butterflies going around you. They were scared but it was cool
If your child is into bugs and learning about new things, this is a great place to take them! There are a variety of insects and spiders as well as a tarantula named Rosie that the kids can actually hold if they so desire! We always enjoy going for the Halloween trick or treating as the place is decorated and they even have chocolate covered bugs to sample.
Take the girls here often. They seem to enjoy it but not necessarily the best activity for the summer since the buildings are hot and humid. Too much for babies and toddlers and not much to keep them occupied since the butterflies shouldn't be handled by them. Perfect locale for the budding butterfly enthusiast.
We had a BLAST!! The butterflies and Different insects Were awesome! My 3 year old talked about it for days and days! He still ask if we can go back! I think its a great attraction for all ages! The food court is expensive so bring a lunch or snack if they allow it!
I visited the Butterfly Pavilion with my two-year old daughter. The butterflies were amazing, but it was a bit much for my two-year old to enjoy. The pavilion where the butterflies are kept is kept hot and humid since most of the butterflies need that type of climate, and that was a bit uncomfortable for my toddler. I would recommend going to see this if you have children older than 4 or 5. I would also recommend checking if there are school visits on the day you plan to go...we went during the day, during the week in April and it was packed with school aged children, which was also a bit too distracting for my two year old. I would go back and give it another if we were in the area, my daughter was older, and it wasn't a busy field trip day!
The Butterfly Pavilion is worth the few extra dollars to provide your kids with a quality earning experience. There's nothing like watching your little ones see a butterfly up close for the first time! I have some great video footage of my oldest doing the sign for "butterfly" as she watched one land on a plant and then fly away. So special! The staff at the Butterfly Pavilion was so helpful as they taught my kids and suggested activities for playful learning. We will definitely go again.
We've been members of the Butterfly Pavilion since my oldest was two years old. We fell in love with the Butterfly Pavilion because of its small size and peaceful pavilion. ( a wonderful place to relax with a toddler & newborn) As my children began to age, we took advantage of all the educational opportunities, and membership privledges. My oldest is now ten years old and still enjoys spending a few hours a month at the Butterfly Pavilion.
I've always thought the Butterfly Pavilion was a bit steep in price (we have four kids) and the only reason we've gone has been that grandpa gave us a family pass. BUT when we've gone, the kids have loved it. Some of them were brave enough to hold Rosie the Tarantula, I love their beehive - fascinating to watch, and the butterflies really are beautiful. I love sitting and watching the chrysalis display where butterflies are in various stages of breaking out of their chrysalis. Really educational all around but in the context of being just fun and interesting!
