The Fountain, one of the largest in the world, is located at Columbus Drive (301 East) and Congress Parkway (500 South) in Grant Park. The Fountain runs from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily, typically from April to mid-October, depending on weather. Times are subject to change when large events take place in or around Grant Park.
While in operation, every hour on the hour for 20 minutes the Fountain produces a major water display and the center jet shoots 150 feet into the air. Beginning at dusk, every hour on the hour for 20 minutes the Fountain's major water display is accompanied by a major light and music display. The final display of the evening begins at 10:00 p.m.
Buckhingham fountain is gorgeous and a must-see if you're already in the area. While in Grant park or nearby at Millenium Park, you can easily walk about 15 minutes to the fountain and enjoy the view of the lake. There is a large wide-open space around the fountain, so it never seems crowded. Enjoy the view and relax for a few minutes before heading off to enjoy everything else Chicago has to offer!
The kids liked stopping here after going to the Shedd. It is fun to see them run around and they loved watching the fountain. It was worth it to stay for awhile and make sure we saw the water show. We have heard the show at dusk is great but we have not seen it before, maybe next time we go to Chicago.
Super fun! I had so much fun & so did the people I went with! I cannot wait until I go again! All the activites are so much fun! The gift shops are great & so are the resturants! So much fun to spend your day here! You will have a great time being here!
this is a great feature of grant park...standing by it in the summer you can cool off a little from the wind blowing the water on you....children will marvel at how "big the water is" and the whole family can take pictures in front of this beautiful fountain
This is the best fountain we have ever been to. One semester every night i used to pass by it by walking and i used to get amazed by differnt color chaning of the fountain. Very very amazing thing to visit. Few times me and my class-mats went by it and sat around for while too. We felt very relaxed just watching it. I wish i had a choice to go there each day. i just loved it, can't say enough about it.
Grant Park and Buckingham Fountain! A must see in Chicago.
Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the lakefront. There are so many spectacular, family friendly activities all summer long.
Chicago is a lovely city and the lakefront is its jewel. Enjoy this place!
This fountain is about halfway down Grant park, and is in the middle of a big space for the kids to run around. It's a huge and gorgeous fountain, on during the summer. It's only about a 15 minute walk through the park from Millennium Park. There are also bathrooms and water fountains next to Buckingham fountain!
Buckingham Fountatin is one of those places in Chicago that just makes it Chicago! While magnificent at anytime it is even more so at night when it is draped in lights and seems to become its own show. If you work it into your vacation plans you will not be sorry!
I recently shared a picture of my children in front of the fountain and my friends were very impressed. This is a great place to bring a picnic and sit and enjoy great views of the city and the lake. There is plenty of wide open space for children to run and play without fear of disturbing others out enjoying the day. During the summer, there are many festivals and street fairs that are around and near Buckingham Fountain.
Buckingham Fountain is quite spectacular even when it isn't shooting water up and cascading down. You can catch a night show with lights, etc, that is quite spectacular. Never before has there been such interest in something as simple as a fountain! Definitely a must see while in Chicago.
