Brookgreen Gardens is a beautiful destination, but maybe not one kids will love. You'll find sculptures, gardens and some wildlife. For my children, the wildlife and gift shop were sadly the only things they found interesting. If it's something mom and dad want to do, the kids will do fine, just don't expect to hear, "Wow, Mom, that was awesome."
My parents took me here when I was a little girl and going back as an adult it is still just as beautiful as it was long ago. The sculptures are all wonderful and it's so nice to walk around look at all the great artwork. It is a great place to take kids and let them run around and look at everything.
This is a great placefor high energy kids to run off some steam. The "gardens" consist of large areas filled with mostly bronze scultures. The sculptures will appeal to young kids fantasies - there are ltos of birds, animals, fantasy figures. And with some creative parent input you can have some wonderful imaginary play. This place is much better suited to the family who like to create their own entertainment that ones that like to be entertained. There is also a small zoo with a good selection of animals that kids will enjoy. And a boat ride on the creek.
This is a beautiful place to see, but not kid friendly. The gardens and wildlife are interesting and gorgeous, but unlike some other botanical centers or gardens there is really nothing built in to keep kids entertained. If you had your heart set on going, visit the website beforehand and come up with a game or scavenger hunt of sculptures, plants, wildlife for the kids to keep them happy.
