Wednesday admission is a pay-what-you-wish donation.
The Bronx Zoo is a really great place for a fun-filled day with your family, the kids will love it! There's tons of different animals like tigers, gorillas, & crocodiles! There is even a 4-d adventure with Dora & Diego, how fun is that?! If your child is 3-12 years old its about $12 which isn't bad for all the fun adventures you'll have that day!
What can I say about Bronx zoo hmm? Well Bronx Zoo basically is a animal lovers dream. This place has lemors, lions,a polar bear. They even have the red Panda how awesome is that.Did I mention there were also camel rides for about 3-5 dollars I think which the kids will love since I enjoyed it myself.
I love the Bronx Zoo. If you take the 2 train up from NYC, do know that you have to carry small kids and strollers down a flight of stairs. But once you get there, it's great. On Wednesdays you donate what you want, but if you don't pay, you miss the parts of the zoo that make it worth going to. Our family's favorite parts are the huge Congo Gorilla Forest, Dora and Diego's 4D movie (warning: it squirts water on you, not a lot but some little ones don't like it), bug carousel, children's zoo, and the Asia monorail (the only elephants are there). Peacocks and Peahens roam freely, so watch your food! There are several places where you have to park your stroller, so I keep my diaper bag light with my important things, and leave the heavy water and the rest in the stroller. We avoid it on weekends, and try to go on cooler days in the morning to beat the lines. They have a lot more animals than they list on their website, like the okapi and tapir at the Congo Gorilla Forest. You can't see everything in one day, so we usually skip the African Plains and all the birds. There are some beautiful Koi fish at the Butterfly Garden, but I would skip that too if it weren't for my daughter. Few things can compare to the San Diego Zoo, but the Bronx beats out the National Zoo in DC and Philly easily. And that tiny one in Central Park. We usually bring some food and buy some at the Crane Cafe. It's priced reasonably for a zoo.
Love the Bronx Zoo. Living in NJ, it's stlil very close to just cross over the bridge. Great even for warm days because there's so much shade at the Zoo. Enjoy a full day, 1/2 day or a few hours you'll enjoy it regardless and the kids will too. I suggest having strollers for the kiddos as they will almost always get tired from walking, but they'll never get tired from seeing all the different animals. They have animals/repitles for any child. Parents can rest assured their children will not only have fun, but learn a great deal also (and you'll have fun too). Make sure to bring lots of water with you.
Definitely bring/rent a stroller for each one of your kids under the age of 5. Luckily there are lots of places to rest, but you will not want to carry those (not-so-little) little ones when their feet start dragging. I also recommend a backpack with lunch, snacks, and water; the food is expensive! The path is mostly shaded, but sunscreen and hats are also essential, just in case. I would also recommend giving each kid a cash allowance before entering ($5 or so) for the many gift shops along the route. Tell them that they can spend this money and nothing else on a special souvenir and to make sure they get the right one; they have the power and you won't have to spend all day saying 'no'.
This is a great place to take the kids and it is educational which is a plus. I have been coming here since I was a child (admittedly I have not been back in a few years, but for no other reason than a busy lifestyle). It is great for all ages, not only for children. Be prepared for alot of walking. It is not necessarily a bad thing. You get to see the animals and get a little sneaky cardio in at the same time!
I go every year with my cousins. It really is a great zoo, has lots to do including a great Gorilla Exhibit and Butterfly House, where the butterflies are all around. Everyone would love it regardless of age. There is actually Free Wednesdays where general admission is free but you can donate any amount of your choice. Just make sure to wear comfortable sneakers or shoes because there is quite a bit of walking involved.
This zoo is the best! Once you cross through the front gate, it's hard to believe that you are still in the middle of the city. Go on a weekday; parking is easier (though traffic will be heavier getting there). Food is expensive, so it would be worth it to pack a lunch.
I love that this zoo is so lush, you wouldn't think that just outside is a concrete jungle..so its a little escape. They have a really fun area for kids to climb on "spiderwebs" and crawl into a turtle's shell. One of the zoo's bigger exhibits is the gorillas and they did a really outstanding job with it. This zoo def stands within my top 2 zoo's ..with San Diego edging it out for the win, but absolutely the best I know on the east coast. My daughters love to ride the camels there.
a great place to enjoy the fall season and where kids can feel free to run and enjoy themselfs..We love it all year around, a place where we can become kids all over again. Come and visit with the kids..we love it. we love the animals and the food. We love the chritmas season beacuse they have ligths and is just beautifull for the entired family
I absolutely Love this zoo! I loved it when I was little and my children love it now! They have such a great variety of animals and very educational centers for the kids (and adults) to learn. It is also Great that on Wednesdays it is free (well they ask for a donation).
We went to the Bronx Zoo to meet up with my friend. It was very nice. They even had a Barney Show for the kids. My daughter likes Barney and she enjoyed the show and watching the kids sing and dance. The insect carousel is was different. We went to the children's zoo area and that was a nice area for the kids to see the animals up close. We enjoyed it but we didn't get a chance to see the whole thing so we need to come back to see the rest of it.
Bronx Zoo is part of the Wildlife Conservation Society. You can join the WCS and get free entry to all of the zoos associated with it as well as free parking and passes. Also, Wednesday is Suggestion Donation Day at the Bronx Zoo (Give whatever you can afford).
The Bronx Zoo has been a great place to take kids since it's inception. My parents took my sister and me there when we wer little and now we take our kids there. Although it's changed so much over the years, one thing remains constant, the fun kids have watching, feeding and playing with the animals. When you're there check out the children's zoo. It's a must. Take a monorail ride, visit the house of darkness and Africa. Eat there. Plan to spend the day. And, oh, my favorite, the sea lions. Check them out at feeding rime.
This is the best zoo I have ever been to by far! it is enormous, so plan on getting there early and spending the entire day- you still might miss some things. There are so many different animals to see, and tons of activities for the kids, and really the whole family! This is one place we have never left disappointed- and as a plus, the kids are always exhausted and go to bed with no fuss!
Bronx zoo is definitely a whole day type of trip. There is a lot of walking in between exhibits, often only being one animal and the animal is hiding in the cave. There is one part that doesn't allow strollers to pass and the dads had to carry strollers with sleeping kids two by two down a flight of stairs. The food court is easy to get food. Food was expensive as expected and there was plenty outdoor or indoor seating. We were there 4 hours and barely got through 1/2 the zoo. The parking is tricky too, try not to park in the main parking, but requires navigating through bronx which can be tricky for out of towners. Try not to go on very hot days. There are some drink/snack stations but might be a while of walking before you find one. Might be a better idea to pack snacks under your stroller. strollers recommended because it's a lot of walking for a 2 year old. Petting zoo part is great!!
Often times when you think about going to the zoo, you think of warmer weather. But the Bronx Zoo is a favorite of my little ones (3, 4) and oldest (11) even on colder days. As a matter of fact, the Bronx Zoo has plenty in going on for kids and their families during the Fall and Winter seasons. From Halloween to Christmas celebrations, there is a lot going on there.
We love it. And because it is such a huge, fun place, there is always more than enough reason to return over and over. For this, and because there is only so much one can see especially with little ones in tow, I recommend that families get a membership, which not only offers free park for about 4 visits, but also pays for itself in no time.
So even if it's cold outside, don't let the cold weather hold you back, and go out and see all the great things going on at the zoo.
The Bronx Zoo is huge! Definitely plan on spending a whole day, it's not a place to go for just an hour or two - you will miss too much!
The zoo had different admission prices, a basic zoo price and total experience price that adds rides like the merry-go-round and attractions like the gorilla section. If you are going for a whole day I would definitely buy the total experience so you can see everything. If you get there after 2pm the basic would be fine, because you probably won't have time to see the whole zoo.
We had never driven through NYC before but found the zoo with a GPS unit with no problems.
The Bronx Zoo is a very nice zoo with lots of exhibits and shows. I first took my daughter when she was about 18 months and she loved it. The only downside was that it was very hilly. Her grandpa came too and he was in a wheelchair. Between pushing the stroller and the wheelchair, both parents were exhausted by the end of the day. If you live in the area or are spending a long visit in NYC I would definitely check it out.
I enjoyed this park very much because it kept me and my family entertained. There is always something to do. You can pet and feed the little animals behind the cages. You can also sit down a rest for a while. This park is very big so there are many animals you can see. I think this is one of the best zoos around and it cheap too.
