For kids only!: The Museum's bright and colorful Imagination Center provides young visitors with an opportunity to explore and discover information at their own level. Children can act out a piece of history or a flight of imagination from the Space Shuttle, pull up a pillow under the tree and read. Everything is hands-on! Your kids will want to come back to this special place that's listed in the Smithsonian's Guide to Discovery Rooms.
It occupies twenty-two acres of interpreted environment. Trails lead through marsh, sand hills, and hammock. Indoors, kids can get their hands on science experiments in the Discovery Room; see displays from the Ice Age, pioneer days, and Space Age; and visit changing exhibits.
