This is one of our favorite places to bring our family and friends who visit from Canada. You are guaranteed to see gators, gators and more gators. We've always passed at least on near the path so you can get a close up look, but always respect that this is their place and do not bother them. Be sure to visit the main building because they allow you to touch a baby alligator and even snakes.
Brazos Bend State Park is 4,897 acres of coastal plain. This Brazos River bottomland has beautiful oaks draped in grapevines and Spanish moss, small lakes and a marsh, and abundant wildlife that includes migratory and shore birds and more than a few alligators. The park has campsites and screened shelters, picnic areas, a nature study and photography tower, fishing, 9 miles of hiking and bike trails, a gift shop and vistor center (open on weekends), and the George Observatory. The observatory features a 36-inch telescope that is open to public viewing on Saturday night. For information on telescope viewing, call (281) 242–3055.
