One of the largest independent bookstores in Northern California, a gathering place for locals and visitors. Throughout the store are benches, stools, and armchairs, comfortable spots to peruse the books and a huge variety of domestic and international magazines and newspapers. The children’s books and toys department are comfortable.
The first thing to know about this bookshop is that is one of the only sources of public bathrooms on Pacific Avenue, Santa Cruz's main street. It also has a wonderful children's section that includes a large assortment of bilingual books and teenage books.
When I used to visit they had a staff member just dedicated to the children's section. There is a rocking horse and a few toys to keep the little guys busy while you browse.
There bargain section is also full of great stuff.
The bookstore is great. I'm not sure I would recommend it as a family activity, but if you love bookstores (as I do) and are looking for something to read to your kids, this is a wonderful place to visit. You can also support this great independent bookstore by buying from them online.
