This isn't a big zoo, but they do a great job using the space they have for nice exhibits, and well cared for animals. It can easily be enjoyed in a single morning or afternoon without wearing out parents or young children. A pretty little zoo, with lots to offer.
During the summer there are over 100 different species on display. It is a small zoo, but is great for anyone that lives in Iowa and doesn't want to drive out of state to visit a zoo.
The train ride was a great way to get off our feet for a bit and see a different view of some animals. I highly recommend it, even if you don't have a train-obsessed child. We were able to see more of the big cats and watch the camel rides from the train.
We brought our own double stroller for our twin infants and rented a double for our 2 & 4 year old. Their double was $6. I remember the food was outrageous, like most zoos. I recommend going during a weekday, if at all possible, to cut down on the crowds and allow your children to fully enjoy the animals. We went during a special event and it was packed.
