"Fun with the Family"

The Bishop White House and Todd House present an interesting opportunity to compare and contrast two different early American lifestyles.
Bishop White was the first Episcopal bishop of Pennsylvania and chaplain of theContinental Congress and of the new U.S. Senate, and this elegant home was built for him and his family in 1786. Children will enjoy the boys’ and girls’ bedrooms, where initials were carved into the wood more than 200 years ago.
The Todd House, on the other hand, represents a middle-class Quaker home fromthe same period. Although well-to-do, this family lived more simply. After the death of John Todd, Dolley Todd married James Madison and became one of the most famous U.S. First Ladies.
