Well, it's very close to UC Berkeley campus and it's beautiful. It has various type of plants to discover (13,000 different kinds of plants from around the world), especially for kids. So, I love to bring my kids here to relax and go from the Asian area to the European area as well as the African area. Also there is one small beautiful lake of Japanese style. The only down point is you have to buy tickets, which is a bit unusual (botanical gardens are normally free).
I passed by these Botanical Gardens many times before actually going there and wow, I was amazed at how big it was! This is a great place to take your family! I actually have brought 4 and 5 year olds a few times here for field trips. We had a great time walking around the trails of the gardens. There's also a grassy area which is great for picnics or running around. There's also a small little pond which often has dragon flies and sometimes even little salamanders! The plants are organized by where they are from and it is really neat to see all the different kinds of plants-- from a banana plant to a cactus!
I believe they also do tours of the gardens and this would be a great way to learn more about the plants.
Check this place out for a fun and informative time!
Botany at it's best. You see a diverse collection of plants, some of which you may not have seen before. Many different pathways to explore for kids, and plants to buy for your garden. Open 9am-5pm daily. Check out the Rose Garden in the opposite side of the street too! It's a site for picture perfect weddings.
