Belvedere Castle is a landmark to be seem by all visitors of Central Park. Now a visitor's center, you can check out the Henry Luce Nature Observatory in the castle, created in 1996, which provides interactive nature exhibits inside the castle as well as bird-watching kits, which can be used throughout the park.
To think I grew up just a few blocks away from Central Park and I never visited Belvedere Castle until last year. Well, it was beautiful and unexpected. Sure, it's a small castle with not much inside, but that's because the greatest part is the outside! From the top of this castle, you get one of the best views of the city skyline and Central Park. Plus, it's free! So next time you're walking around Central Park, definitely stop by. It's one of the city's hidden gems.
After we left the Guggenheim, we wandered over to Central Park. We were surprised to see a castle in the distance. Was it open to the public? Could we go in? We managed to find our way across the park to the castle. The girls loved exploring the terraces and going up the tight circular stairways up to the top for a great view of Central Park!
Belvedere Castle was one of the things that we were excited to see in Central Park. I have to admit, we were a little disappointed. It looks pretty cool, but it is much smaller than we imagined. If you go inside, they have a little museum, but it is pretty boring. There are some animal bones of different things that can be found in the park, but that's about it. Don't go too out of your way to find it.
