Catch some Nittany Lion action at Beaver Stadium, the second largest in the country.
As a Penn State alumni along with my husband, we have been to many, many games together. We go to games every year (my husband more that the kids and I). Each year we come here over the Labor Day holiday with a neighbor family. Usually this is the first game of the season so people are psyched to get into football again. We stay in a cabin at nearby Raystown Lake and attend the game on Saturday. The rest of the weekend is spent hiking and relaxing at the Lake and surrounding state parks etc.
Beaver Stadium is a terrific place to see college football. The people are nice and the stadium is located in a rural, safe area. I would recommend it to kids who are a bit older, as they can follow the game a little better. My kids are 10, 8 and 4 and we have taken all of them. My 4-year-old is really into sports, so he actually likes it the best, but I am sure he is the exception!
It's fun to come early and tailgate with hamburgers and hotdogs and play football in the fields. And if they hand out free pompoms your kiddo will love it even more!!
Just remember that if you're planning to get a hotel in town, you need to reserve WAY IN ADVANCE, as people are serious about football in this area and the hotels really really book up. You may also want to be prepared for traffic, especially leaving the stadium. But just make the best of it and be patient and everyone gets out of there.
I would recommend this activity for families.
For many people the most famous aspect of Penn State is its football team. The Nit-tany Lions play in the Big Ten College Football League, and sports fans come from around the country to see a game at Beaver Stadium.
