We LOVE this new state or the art water park in Corpus Christi. It's free and it's fun. Plus, in the heat of summer, nothing beats water. Our three year old can't get enough of the water park! One bit of advice, show up early (8 or 9 a.m.) and get out before the masses show up!!!
The heart of the city of Corpus Christi can be found in and around the Bayfront Arts and Science Park complex. The Water Garden here is a cooling, soothing circle of more than one hundred fountains that are lighted at night. In late June the Water Garden hosts Fiesta de Corpus Christi, a celebration of the city’s Hispanic heritage, with music, historical exhibits, and other events. An even bigger family event happens here in September. Called Bayfest, the festival includes an expansive arts-andcrafts show, fireworks, parades on city streets and on the water, a sailboat regatta, and other boat races. • The Art Museum of South Texas (361–825–3500; www.stia.org) features the work of many area artists and has rotating exhibits. Open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Sunday 1- 5 P.M., free on Thursday.
• The Selena Auditorium (800–775–1617) is home to concerts, musicals, and other shows. Times and prices of shows vary.
• The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History (361–883–4650) houses the natural history of the area, including artifacts from sixteenth-century shipwrecks,a live reptile exhibit, and interactive hurricane displays. Open Tuesday through Saturday 10A.M. - 5P.M., Sunday noon to 5P.M. $$.
• Harbor Playhouse (361–888–7469) has children’s shows, summer melodramas, and other theater works throughout the year. $$–$$$.
