The Barrier Free Playground is a unique playground that caters to children of vary abilities and disabilities. The playground equipment is specially designed with this in mind. This is one of the largest playground of it's kind in California.
In the same park there is a heated swimming pool and vollyball, playing field and baseball fields.
The Barrier Free park in Roberts Regional Recreation Area is great for children with disabilities, or in my case, kids who love to run around lots of ramps and play structures without being slowed by pesky stairs or too many rails.
This park is tucked away up in the redwoods growing on the Oakland hills, which, while scenic, made it a bit of a trek for my son and I from the South Bay. While looking for the park, we drove in from the north/west side of the regional park which we probably wouldn't do again (it's slow going with very, very windy roads - my son had fun but my wife gets carsick and doesn't appreciate the experience as much).
The playground itself, side from being more accessible to people with disabilities, didn't seem like anything too special for the trek we had to make to get here. They charge a $5 parking fee and additional fees for pool use (a nominal $2-3), but being up amongst the redwoods, I think we'd rather take the opportunity with out next visit to go hiking along the many trails within the regional park than to go to the playground.
