A favorite spot to stop off and get ice cream on the way to or from Avila Beach. You can also buy fresh fruit and vegetables grown locally, pick up a bakery treat, or just take the kids to visit the farm pets or go for a hay ride and pick fresh produce.
This is such a wonderful place to take your kids! They have really wonderful produce and a fun gift shop. They also have a new ice cream shop that has really yummy ice cream. They have u-pick times where you can ride a wagon with your kids to a section of their property and pick your own produce. When you're finished, you hop back on and ride it back to the barn. They also have a lot of different animals that you can feed (they'll give you food if you ask) for free. Their pies are AMAZING! We love going and picking our pumpkins in the fall and our christmas trees for Christmas. If you've never been, this place is a must!!! :)
I cannot say enough good things about the Avila Valley Barn! We have been to other farms (most recently Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark) and this by far is the best! We went on a weekday and although there were other families, it was not crowded and parking was easy. We came after lunch and had ice cream but they also have sandwiches, soups and other goodies to buy. My son's favorite part was buying a bag of "goat food" for 25 cents in the veggie sales area and feeding the goats. The bag was huge and you could easily share it among two kids if you wanted. The animals appeared well cared for, happy and friendly. We took the free tractor ride to the orchards to pick peaches and this was also a hit. You can't beat the ocean breezes coming up from the beach to the farm. Just a great relaxing and fun place! We'll be back!
My family was in HEAVEN at Avila Valley Barn! They had the best food, California grown produce, kids activities, and atmosphere. My daughter is 2 and her attention span is short and they had activities for her entertainment, which was GOLD for us!
We went just got back from being on a Saturday afternoon and it was very crowded (which I was told is typical for any time they are open) but the lines went quick and we did not have to wait long to get our goodies. We spent about 3 hours petting the animals and eating lunch. Definitely would go back again!
Make sure you go for lunch. They have awesome sandwiches. We got the curry chicken salad sandwich and the turkey sandwich with avocado. Both were amazing.
The farm animals were a hit for my 3 year old son. His favorite were the hens and roosters that were hanging around near one of the fenced-in areas. Not sure if they'd escaped, but they seemed perfectly happy pecking at the hillside and no one seemed to mind.
The hay ride to the U-Pick area was okay. But since it was free, I couldn't complain too much. I was disappointed that the only thing that there was to pick were apples. I would think that at the end of August, more fruits would be available to pick. The ride takes about 40 minutes roundtrip, but I guess that probably depends on what is available to be picked.
THis is a great place for the whole family to visit. If you do not want to spend any money, no problem or pressure. If you want to feed the animals, they will even give you a free bag of 'veggies' for them. My daughters, 1 & 3, love this place and are always pointing in awe.
If you want to spend some money, then they can help you out easily. They have a huge variety of fresh produce and home made goodies along with some child-hood favorites. You will not go away hungry from this place.
The only problem may be parking. There is a limited amount of parking. So you may have a difficult time finding a spot, after all this is a popular place.
We love the charm of the Central Coast and Avila Valley Barn keeps this charm alive. As a family of four, there is something for us all. My three year old loves feeding the barn yard animals after having a picnic on the grass. She is then eager to hit the Sweet Shop for an ice cream come and maybe even take a hay ride to pick seasonal fruit from the orchard. The fruit and veggie stand is outstanding and the gift shop is charming. My seven month old enjoys playing under the sun and taking in all of the beauty. I highly recommend a stop at the barn for any family passing through the Central Coast!!!
This farm is so cute! It's free to visit, and it includes an animal area, where you can find cows, goats, chickens, and peacocks, a quaint (but expensive) shop to buy fresh produce, gifts, and baked goods, and an ice cream store where they make the most delicious ice cream. During the holidays they host special events for families, too.
Our family adores this barn...and barn is a complete understatement....the sprawling property boasts a complete ice cream factory, bakery, sweet shop, organic and local produce, animals for feeding and hay rides to the crops and tress growing on the grounds. Their roasted corn on the cob is delish! The weekends can get VERY crowed...enjoy and bring your sunscreen its a warm spot in Avila!
We just went this last weekend for the 3rd year in a row to pick pumpkins. The free tractor ride on the weekends makes the kids faces light up :-) There are many fields with pumpkins so it isn't over crowded and every one will find their perfect pumpkin. The hay maze is really difficult and you get lost easy which makes it even more fun!
We really enjoy getting our pumpkins here where you can ride a tractor and pick your own. They have tractor rides all year long and the crops vary obviously. Apple and berry seasons are really yummy! Oh, usually they let you eat what you pick while you are out. Just watch out for the holiday crowds! It gets packed on the weekends.
This is definitely our home away from home. We are so lucky to live so close to get to enjoy it so regularly!!
They have a great petting zoo where the kids get to even feed the animals. It is so fun! They also have an amazing ice cream shop, bakery, fresh fruit & veggies...they have it all. Each season brings a fun new outing and Avila Barn is always great at having activities for such events!
The kids just love the animals and the barn gives you FREE lettuce with which to feed them. Once the kiddos have spent time with the animals, you can take a break and snack on the yummy goodies that can be bought at the barn. Then, take home some wholesome veggies and fruit before you leave! This is a fun activity for Friday afternoon as you can travel a bit further down the road to the farmer's market at Avila beach held every Friday evening.
Animals to see, snacks to eat, and a nice variety of fresh fruits and veggies. Our kids enjoy this place, and it's nice that there is no charge to get in to see the animals. The sweet shop has a nice variety of fudges and ice cream flavors. We'll return time and time again.
You can buy produce (kind of expensive) and get free scraps to feed the animals they have on the property. They have a sweet shop and at certain times of the year you can take a hayride out to the pastures to pick food. October is our favorite time. They have tons of pumpkins and a little hay maze for the kids to play in. Although, it does get PACKED on the weekends.
We frequently visited Avila Valley Barn, and always had a fantastic time! You can visit the various farm animals, buy fresh produce, pick your own fruits and sample lots of yummy things. They also have cute toys and gifts for everyone. Be sure to ask a worker for a free bag of greens to feed the animals!
This is a great place to visit. Feed the animals (just ask one of the employees for some animal food), browse the gift shop, eat some ice cream (yum!), buy some fruit and veggies, and relax on the central coast. Avila Valley Barn is a great place to visit!
Avila Valley Barn is so amazing. It's like a mini zoo with no admission charge. My 18 month old loves to feed the animals. We always get the yummy ice cream at the sweet shop and some pie to take home. They have a pretty good toy selection too. I still want to do the berry picking and the hay ride, haven't done those yet.
My 1 year old daughter and I went to the Avila Valley Barn 3 times last week. They have goats, chickens, sheep, ponies, emus, cows, and a few more animals that you get to feed. They do hayrides through out the day. They have a great ice cream and sweets shop. My favorite part is the fresh produce they sell and their bakery. You have got to try their Triple Berry Pie! My mother in-law loves their gift shop. Fun to stop in on your way home from the beach.
