I have seen beautiful exhibitions at the Asian Art Museum. I wish I knew more about Asian Art so I can appreciate more what is showed in this museum. I visited it with my daughter's class for a field trip and the amount of information I learned from the docent was phenomenal. I wish I could do that everytime I go there.
Currently there is a Samurai exhbit that is not to be missed. It has hundreds of pieces on display and gives good detailed explanations of each item. The price of admission is especially reasonable with a student discount. Even without the samurai exhibit the museum is very interesting but is not for small children. Teenagers that want to look at history up close will not find a more informative place on Asian Art. Highly recommended for teens and adults.
Families can visit this musuem in the Civic Center area on the first Sunday of each month for free. You can get a feel for the beautiful art of Asia, whether it's from mystical India, ancient China or smaller countries like Burma and Bhutan. Elevator and bridges available for access.
A spectacular new cultural attraction in a stunningly redesigned building, this is one of the largest museums in the Western world devoted exclusively to Asian art. Kids will find fascinating the huge East Indian stone sculptures, intricately carved Chinese jades, Cambodian buddhas, Japanese kimonos, arms and armor, puppets, and daggers from Indonesia. Daily from noon to 4:00 p.m., AsiaAlive is a free interactive program for all ages, with art demonstrations, videos, and hands-on activities. A Family Festival takes place in May, and you can come for free art workshops on first Saturdays.
On Sundays and first Saturdays, storytellers keep kids mesmerized with Asianmyths and fairytales. Within the museum, Cafe Asia is a serene indoor/outdoor environment for enjoying Asian-style snacks: bento boxes, rice bowls, noodles, sushi, salads, and sweets.
