The Mansion was the home of philanthropist, railroad magnate, and founder of Lehigh University, Asa Packer. There is interesting architecture, antiques and history, good for the historically inclined family members. While it's no Palace of Versaille, the extravagant interior and exterior will inspire some awe and intrigue.
The Mansion is open weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) during the months of April and May. The Mansion is open seven days a week from Memorial Day to November 1. The Mansion concludes daily operation after November 1, and will then be open weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) in November and the first two weekends in December weather permitting. The Mansion is closed for winter maintenance during the months of January, February and March. Hours of operation are 11:00 A.M. to 4:15 P.M.
Pretty house up on a hill with great views...saw the red roof driving into town and didn't know what it was. There are some interesting artifacts in the house (special organ piano) and there are wall treatments made with sand that I found interesting. The chandelier in the living room was replicated in the movie "Gone With the Wind"! We were there a year ago and I still remember that!
Although not a place to take your wound-up preschooler, older kids will enjoy oglingthe opulent furnishings in this Victorian mansion.
