Below the colorful clay cliffs, Aquinnah/Gay Head Beach is very popular during the summer. Because parking is limited and the beach extends south for several miles, it’s rarely crowded.
NOTE: There are no lifeguards here, and the closest restrooms (50 cent charge—bring change) are on the center of the circle.
You’ll probably see people climbing up the cliffs. Resist the temptation; if caught, you will be fined. The worst of the cliffs’ erosion is a direct result of foot traffic. Moreover, the cliffs are the private property of the Wampanoag tribe, which runs the town of Aquinnah/Gay Head.
CAUTION: Nude bathing on some stretches of beach.
