The American West Heritage Center preserves the history of the surrounding area through living history activities, events, school programs, exhibits, and outreach activities. Daily Adventures include visits to several historical living encampments such as the Native American Encampment, Mountain Man Camp and Fur Trade area, Pioneer Settlement and the Jensen Historical Farm and a Woodright Shop.
This is an outdoor museum with lots of living history. The Center has a blacksmith shop, old cabins and lots of farm animals. At certain times of year they host events with volunteers dressed up as pioneers who can answer questions about various old-fashioned crafts like candle making, spinning, outdoor cooking and animal husbandry. Its a great place for kids to learn about the past.
During the early spring about March or April they have baby animal days where you can go and pet and hold some of the newest animals on the farm! Last year it was raining so they offered discounts since some of the displays had to be shut down. I would like to go when the weather is better, but either way my daughter loved seeing the bear cubs, holding the chicks, etc.
