This is a great museum with a tremendous number of vehicles, memorbilia, and equipment. There are a number of trucks to climb on, equipment to dress up and pretend to be a firefighter, and knowledgable staff to help. We hosted our son's birthday party here and even though no food or drinks are allowed in the museum, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
It's easy to find and there's plenty of parking. No food or beverages are offered, but Hudson's Warren Street has plenty to offer for food and drinks. You can spend about two hours here to see everything once, more if you're reading all the displays.
There is a small fee now, but well worth it if you've got someone with even a slight interest in firefighting - the collection is large and compelling.
For the fledgling firefighters in your family, this is a fascinating place. The collection, the largest of its kind, includes more than seventy antique and unusual fire engines from 1725 to the present day, as well as firefighting equipment, artwork, and memorabilia from two centuries. Special events throughout the year culminate with the New York State Firefighters Competition and Field Day in July.
This is such a fun place for kids, especially those who want to learn more about the life of our neighborhood heroes... firefighters.
The museum has a great collection of memorabilia and hands-on activities like the emergency sound station, costume area, bucket brigade, and five real life-sized fire trucks for kids to sit and play on.
The Puppet Theater also holds different shows on the weekends which are a treat. Check the website for details.
And the best part, this place is FREE!
