"We'd love to hang out all day!"

Dan took us on an abbreviated tour for a few hours in the afternoon to give us a taste of what Alaska Nature Tours are all about -- if you have kids that love nature (think Wild Kratts enthusiasts) then this is a tour for you!

There was SO much information woven into our casual conversation as we hiked through the ancient rainforest! Danwas obviously quite knowledgeable about Southeast Alaska and the ecosystem of the temperate rainforest as well as the unique transition zone that lies where Haines is found on the map. It's a far cry from the perpetual rains of Ketchikan and the southern reaches of the Inside Passage but not quite like the Yukon either.

Dan was ready for curious kids - he is equipped with shorter stature spotting scopes and put us right on an active eagles nest with itty bitty eaglets within. My son loves eagles and is familiar with the large raptor since we're from Minnesota, but he'd never gotten to see a huge nest with babies. This made a very tangible learning experience.

Though we were with Dan for a very short tour due to scheduling conflicts and a short span of time in Haines, we knew right away this was a great family adventure. Longer tours include options such as bear viewing, longer hikes into the forest, and even some grub if you plan in advance. Dan's vehicles are able to accommodate kids in carseats -- and he's really easy-going and allows folks to bring their own along for the perfect fit.

We were thrilled to see that he even had several sizes of walking sticks from knee high size for our son to those that would work well for elderly tourists and all that could fall in between those extremes.

Truly outfitted for the entire familiy, we'd definitely book with Alaska Nature Tours and enjoy some time exploring the natural world with Dan again. We recommend this tour to those that would like to learn (road-schoolers!) and those that want to be able to experience the wilder side of Alaska!

Disclosure: We were taken on a complimentary tour with Dan from Alaska Nature Tours. We are expressing our honest opinion from our experience and think this tour is dandy for families!
