Amenities include snack bars, a picnic area, restrooms, telephones, and lifeguards.
Accessible parking is located in the large parking lot at Magic Island, at the Diamond Head (east) end of the park. There is also an accessible parking stall at each concession stand.
A lot of people go there for swiming, standing paddling, jogging, playing tennis etc, but I do not like to take my daughter there. If I need to swim, I rather go somewhere else. I do not why people go there. Hard to find a parking on weekend, and too many homeless.
This is a great beach park for the nice calm waters and the adjacency to Waikiki however, the number of homeless people that reside in this park makes enjoying the day rather difficult. HPD does sweeps of the park from time to time to "clean" it up, but it doesn't last. I think there are other beaches on this island with just as terrific of surf with a more family friendly atmosphere.
This popular hangout for locals offers visitors recreational fun just outside of Waikiki.
You’ll see lots of people here surfing, swimming, picnicking, jogging, and in-line skating.
In the middle of the park is Magic Island, a manufactured structure that juts out from the
coastline, providing a calm inside bay for young children.
The view from here looks back toward Waikiki and is nothing short of stupendous,
especially during sunset. If you happen by on a Friday evening, you’ll be treated not only
to a spectacular sunset, but also a colorful panorama of sails as boats race back to the
harbor, a long-standing local tradition. The park isn’t a good place to be at night, however,
so it’s best to leave the vicinity when the sun sets.
This is a huge park and beach. Go to Magic Island as it is cozy and has several shady spots. Bring a picnic lunch or better yet pick up some plate lunches. Don't forget your cooler with lots of water and drinks because it can get hot! Bring sunscreen too. Take a dip in the naturally warmed ocean water and when you're done go ahead and shower off at the provided showers. Bring some balls and games and make a whole day out of it. It's a great place to take a nap too. Enjoy your family time together!
good for young kids, though not that exciting for parents. need to find a stretch with decent sand.
This is a great beach for little ones with a long stretch of sand and calm waters (most of the year). There's lots of locals here on the weekend, but parking is usually manageable. The bathrooms are relatively clean.
Besides being so centrally located, Ala Moana Beach is perfect for young children who are weary of big waves. Although mask and snorkel won't find much to look at, young children will enjoy the calm and relaxing atmosphere. Coconut trees provide good shade during the day time hours. This is also a great beach to "swim laps". In the parking lot there are usually a few lunch trucks where you can get two scoop rice dishes and not far away is Ala Moana Shopping Center where you can escape the heat and find some good food.
