This is a great place to visit with your family. It's got plenty of rides for all ages, yet lacks the huge crowds and long lines of the biggest amusement parks. It's VERY family oriented, with entertainment for the oldest and youngest child. It's also VERY clean, which is something that can't be said about all amusement parks.
Adventureland is nothing compared to the bigger parks like worlds of fun or six flags but if you live in Iowa and want a fun day trip it is definitely fun for younger kids. We started taking our boys once a summer at age two and it is all they talk about all year round. Our 4 year old was able to go on a few roller coasters even!
We liked this amusement park because it has all of the basic amusement park rides, but is not always as crowded. There is a good range of activities for different ages. The food is your basic amusement park junk food. Keep your eye out for coupons to save on admission.
Another Family Fun Fest was at Adventureland. We had 6 kids ranging in ages from 8-2. They all had a great time despite the heat. There were also 9 adults and they all had a good time too. My 4 year old son said his favorite rides were the rock hopper, the bumper cars, and the tea cups. He wishes he could live at Adventureland! Even our two year old had good time and no one griped about the August heat.
Growing up in Iowa, we always went to Adventureland. Now that I have kids of my own, I realize that we really have a nice sized amusement part right at our back door.
There are activities for most children 4 years old and up. They have classic rides, like the "Tea Cups" that have been around for ever, as well as newer attractions.
Adventureland has several big coasters for those that are looking for thrills. Other great rides are scattered through out the park. Everything from bumper cars to a log ride.
Last summer several water park additions to the park opened. The Kokomo Cove is a great addition to the existing park. It's nice to have a place to go and get wet on a hot summer day!
The ticket prices have risen over the years, for 2011 they are priced at $30 for children and $35 for adults. Children under 3 are free. They normally have discounted tickets available online prior to the opening of the park, and discount coupons are available at local grocery stores as well.
There's something for everyone in the family. Big, thrill rides. Small, less scary rides. A waterpark. A circus! Prepare for a full day of fun in the sun. The food is a little expensive here and you also have to pay for parking, so I recommend leaving a cooler in your car. They'll stamp your hand so you can come back in after stopping at your car.
