I took my kids aged 10, 7, and 2 on the Eagle Bahn Gondola ride from Vail to Adventure Ridge, a 10,000 foot elevation adventure park. The Eagle Bahn Gondola lift ticket is a great value for families since three kids aged 12 and under can ride free with a paying adult (adult lift ticket was $22). My kiddos loved this ride, enjoying the amazing views of Vail down below and the 14,000 foot Colorado peaks above. I loved the awe-inspiring sight of Mount of the Holy Cross in the distance from Adventure Ridge.
Adventure Ridge is the starting point for high elevation recreation with activities to keep any family busy. In the summer, these activities include horseback tours, jeep tours, mountain biking, rebound trampoline, climbing wall, pony rides, disc golf, free lawn sports, dinosaur fossil dig, nature hikes and visits to the interactive displays at the Nature Discovery Center. Prices vary for each activity with horseback tours beginning at $50, jeep tours at $25 and all other activities priced at $10.
My family opted for the rebound trampoline, disc golf, hiking, and the Nature Discovery Center to keep us entertained. The rebound trampoline was definitely a favorite activity for all the kids visiting Adventure Ridge, as the long line would attest to. As my kiddos waited for their turn to jump, we watched little kids jumping to obscene heights. My older kids exclaimed that they did not want to go as high as those children. Low and behold, when their turn arrived, they jumped as high as their predecessors, laughing and relishing their elevation feat. Disc golf was my son’s favorite activity – probably because he beat the socks off his Mommy. My 2 year old also got into the action and uncovered several “fossils” in the Dino Dig. We dined that day at Talon’s Deck Outdoor Grill where we enjoyed cheeseburgers at 10,000 feet while admiring the 14,000 feet peaks beyond. Lunch was tasty – grilled to order while we moved through the line.
Families visiting Vail should definitely take the time to ride the Eagle Bahn Gondola to Adventure Ridge whether they intend to purchase activities at the top of the mountain or not. There are plenty of free activities to entertain on Adventure Ridge such as the Nature Discovery Center, lawn games, mountain biking, and guided hikes. We especially enjoyed visiting the Nature Discovery Center, a small museum with interactive and educational displays of the area’s flora and fauna. We also enjoyed hiking the trails at Adventure Ridge, admiring the views and beautiful wildflowers along the way.
In all, I would rate our afternoon at Adventure Ridge 4 stars. The only star I deducted was for my toddler, as I felt that there were not enough activities to entertain her age group (unfortunately I discovered her extreme fear of adorable little ponies willing to take her for a fun little ride).
Disclosure: Although I received complimentary activities, my reviews are always my own opinions and are not influenced by staff or its affiliates.
According to my 5-year-old, snow tubing at Adventure Ridge was the highlight of the trip. And doing the bungee jump/trampoline in the snow, at night, in the dark! Whoo hoo. And of course the gondola ride to get there. Wish i'd thought of sneaking her in to the snow mobiles like the other poster. I'm sure she would have loved that too.
We vacationed in Vail for the past 11 years and moved here in August 2009. My boys 6 & 4 have been participating in the Adventure Ridge Activities for the past 3 years.
My son drove the snowmobiles when he was 3 (don't tell I think you are supposed to be 6). They really love the trampoline! It is available in the summer and sometimes winter, the pizza is great, the tubing is the best!
