Adventure Aquarium lives up to its name with exhibits like the West African River Experience.
What's not to love about fish? Ok, besides the smell? Other than that, though, they're pretty cool, right? Fish and aquariums are terrific stress-relievers and super simple entertainment for kids of all ages. At Adventure Aquarium your kids can enjoy all of the wonder an aquarium offers. My family has been here several times and have enjoyed each visit immensely. Yes, it can be kinda smelly, so just beware. They are fish, after all. My kids, however, have always reveled in the beauty of the many, many species of aquatic life here, both indoors and out. There are a TON of different kinds of fish, turtles, stingrays, seals, penguins, hippos -- and sharks!! By far one of the biggest highlights was the shark tank. A must-see. There are plenty of hands-on experiences throughout the place and the outdoor exhibits are so fun! All ages would adore this place. It is located in Camden which is scary-land, so be sure to use a GPS to get there. It is also a tad on the expensive side, but there are coupons and discounts to be had, so do your homework before you go and either buy tickets online or use a discount book such as the Entertainment Book to bring the price down. Parking is also about $10. Overall, though, a chance to spend the afternoon with some really cool fish and aquatic life is well worth your time. Pack up the kids and go!
My children and I really loved the Camden Aquarium! They have a beautiful layout and a lot of interesting and diverse exhibits! A favorite was the shark tank! The only negative (aside from the location) is the fact that it is super expensive for a day trip and even memberships are super expensive. A beautiful place to visit but not somewhere we can go very often.
This year we thought long and hard about what to do on Christmas Day. We were quickly getting swept up in family drama, where to go, whose house to eat at, and the list goes on. We finally sat down and talked about how we could keep the focus of the holidays on our little family- how we could create some amazing memories and spend the entire day enjoying each other’s company.
Imagine my surprise when our final decision led us to something so non-traditional, I questioned whether or not we were making a good choice. We decided to head over to the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ. Lily Bean LOVES fish (she has a small aquarium in her room), and from what we’ve heard, they have a pretty cool setup.
It's also worth mentioning that there are some money saving tips that will save you a little cash.
Admission- Kids 2 and Under are free
$21.95/adult and we used 50% off coupon that a friend gave us. Paid $24 total (Also check the Entertainment Book for coupons)
Food- You are allowed to bring in your own food!! 2 Wawa Shorti hoagies, chips, soda: $12
Parking- Usually $10/car- they were not collecting parking fees that day! FREE
Gift shop- Yup, we were so pleased with how little everything had cost at that point, we bought Lily Bean a stuffed penguin: $10
The aquarium was WONDERFUL!!! There were PLENTY of great things to see and do. Lily Bean was in heaven! We probably spent 3-4 hours inside, which included eating our lunch. We saw sharks, hippos, seals, penguins, and about 50 million different kinds of fish. They have “please touch” areas where you can touch sharks, rays, and other sea creatures. We all loved the ocean theatre- a HUGE viewing window into the aquarium’s jaw droppingly giant tank- complete with stadium seating! The staff members put on a short show in the theatre that ended with an appearance in the tank from Scuba Santa!
From the Christmas music and decorations to the excitement of the ocean, Biker Bob and I agree that we can’t remember a better Christmas. We spent the entire day enjoying our little family, and watching Lily Bean delight in tank after tank of exciting sea life. The experience taught me not to be afraid to deviate from the norm once in awhile- you just never know what hidden treasures might be waiting.
We had a great time here. Our infant son was fascinated by the fish and other aquatic life, the food court was pricy but had selections to please everyone, including the preschoolers in our group. We especially enjoyed the shark tunnel and the observation area of the shark tank with stadium-seating, perfect for taking a break while the baby naps in his sling. Since we live so close, we are considering becoming members to defray the admission cost. Definitely come early because it gets crowded quickly!!
Adventure Aquarium: Located right over the bridge in Camden, the Adventure Aquarium is a no-brainer. Kids will LOVE it. And so will you - it is a gorgeous place to visit. And there is so much to see and do, small kids can't possibly get bored. They even offer a special family value package to make your day more affordable. Get there early - this is a hot spot that gets crowded quickly!
I cannot say enough great stuff about this place. Another of those places we just had to visit again, we have been there on two different vacations. The kids had a fantastic time seeing all the ocean life on display. For them, the penguins were the main attraction. They had never seen penguins before, and seeing them outside in both spring and winter was great fun. We even got to see them being fed, so cute. Each and every attraction there was interesting and educational (a homeschooling mom’s dream). We saw massive sharks and petted small ones, watched giant rays floating in the huge observation tank and watched hippos have a snack. My personal favorite was the Jules Verne display, complete with lots of creatures I had never seen outside of oceanography textbooks. My girls loved dancing in the pink shimmery light of the main rotunda. It was great fun and we plan to go again on our next trip to Pennsylvania as well. Of special interest are the Children’s Garden next door and the great views of Philadelphia across the Delaware River. Admission was reasonable (less than $20 each) for all that you get to see and do. The staff was knowledgeable and so personable that even my shy girls had no problem asking questions.
From some of the write ups I read beforehand, I expected a much cleaner and better maintained aqaurium. Most of the areas were fine, but the food court smelled like an old fish tank, We went on a busy day, and I think maintence was having a hard time keeping things clean.
The shark tunnel is really cool, and so is the large aqaurium.
This place is amazing! Anyone of any age can have fun here, we went on a very busy day when there were summer camps there and it was still awsome. There is something for everyone to see here. Makes a great day trip, food was a bit pricey in my opinion (but i am cheap) We will be going back as my child gets older.
My son was an infant when we visited the Camden Adventure Aquarium, and I believe he enjoyed it every bit as much as his older brother and 65 year old grandfather did. Even the teenagers we saw were having a good time, especially at the sharks. Wonderful wonderful aquarium, very well done. We got some decent pics by turning off the flash on our camera.
There is alot to see here. From toddlers to adults, there is something for everyone. Whether you are into the penquins and sea lions, or just the fish. The kids love looking at how different kinds of fish look. There are sharks & the chance to pet rays, like I said something for everyone.
This aquarium is located right across the river from Philadelphia. It is in a pretty good location if you are in southern New Jersey or Pennsylvania. This aquarium had lots of great exhibits, but my kids especially loved the sharks. They have a tunnel that you can walk through while the sharks swim over you. In some cases the sharks got a little too close for my two-year old's comfort, but my 7 year-old niece loved them. You can also get up close and personal with the penguins. I would definitely go again.
